The #Fitdad Shortage

I train people at all stages in their lives and for some the simple act of being able to pick up and play with their children pain free is their main goal.  Some of the people I've worked with strive to be role models for their kids.  For instance, a running line with one of my clients is, Do It For The Tooch! (his nickname for his son), one that I’ll employ if he’s on the fence on training a certain day.  It is a great motivator.  Today, I was doing some hashtag research and found that the hashtag fitmom has been utilized over nine million times.  How about the fitdad hashtag?  A paltry half million.  So there are about eight and a half million more fit moms on Instagram than fit dads.  Is it a fit dad epidemic?!!  With this huge disparity there are so many questions you can ask and I’m sure inevitably get into a hearty gender dispute.  However, that is not the purpose of my blog nor do I desire to dive down that rabbit hole.  The purpose of this post is to bring awareness, and hopefully encourage some dads to take a look at their health.

Recently, the gym that I work at CrossFit 212 hosted a 6 Week Challenge, geared towards Dads who might’ve been buried with work and starting a family and who put their health on the back burner.  I’m sure this is a likely scenario for many parents as striking a balance between work, raising a family, and personal health is a tough one to maintain.  But your personal health will positively impact the others, and it is a matter of making time and commitment.  I want to see the fitdad hashtag grow, I want millions of fitdads out there getting in shape, and setting the example for their children.  And fitmoms, keep it up!

Here's a video of some Fit Dads from CrossFit 212, leading by example!!
